You can add photos to either the record for an individual family member or to the family page that you are editing.
Before adding your photos, you need to first make sure that they are a size that will allow them to appear on the website pages within a reasonable amount of time. Large photos take a long time to load onto a webpage and do not fit into the screen. Most images that are scanned or taken with a digital camera are too large for web pages. The width of these images can be up to 4000 pixels wide. Most computer screens are only from about 800 to 1400 pixels wide.
A reasonable size for webpage images is between 400-600 pixels wide. This size allows for the entire image to be shown on the screen (as opposed to just the top-left corner) but it also decreases the amount of image data that is sent to the computer, allowing the image to completely load within a reasonable amount of time.
If you do not have an image-editing program installed on your computer, try this website: www.picresize.com On this site you can also crop images. Follow the instructions in the help section of the website. Once you image is resized you need to save a “copy” of it so that the original is preserved.
Once your images are resized, follow the steps below to add images to the DiehlFamily.ca website:
Open up the page/record that you want to add a photo to:
- In the administration menu, click on “Pages” if you will be adding images to a family page. If you will be adding images to an individual’s record, click on “Family.” You will then see a list of the pages or records that exist.
- Hover your mouse over the name of the page or family member and click on “Edit.”
- Hover your mouse over the exact location that you wish to add the photo to. Click once to place your mouse cursor in that spot.
- Click on the “Add Media” button at the top of the page. A page will pop up. You can now do one of two things – upload your photo or select a photo from the Media Library that you previously uploaded.
To upload a photo:
- Under “Insert Media” click on “Upload Files.”
- Find the image (from your computer) that you want to upload and click on it. Once it is selected, click “Open” at the bottom. That popup will close.
